Jessica was born and raised just outside of Buffalo, NY. Even at an early age, thunderstorms fascinated her and in time her interest in weather grew. After graduating from Lancaster High School in 2003, Jessica decided to continue her education at SUNY Brockport. While there she pursued her passion for weather. In May of 2007, Jessica graduated with a B.S. degree in Meteorology and a minor in Mathematics.Jessica McLaughlin

Just after graduation Jessica packed her bags and headed to the Midwest for her first job. In May 2007, she began working at KIMT News 3 in Mason City, IA as the Weekend meteorologist. In January of 2008, Jessica was promoted to DayBreak/MidDay meteorologist. While living in the Midwest she's seen it all; blizzards, floods, thunderstorms, and of course tornadoes!

Jessica chased but didn't actually see one of the biggest tornadoes to hit Iowa in many years. On May 25, 2008 a raging EF5 tornado leveled the town of Parkersburg, IA. Jessica and a couple of her co-workers were tailing the storm and made it to the town just over 15 minutes after the tornado hit.MilesThe devastation was truly unimaginable. The spring of 2008 certainly started off with a bang but the next natural disaster would hit much closer to home. On July 7, 2008, severe storm after severe storm brought hail, strong winds, and tornadoes to North Iowa and Southern Minnesota but the worst was yet to come. The next morning the river levels rose quickly and before the town knew what hit them, river levels were already approaching major flood stage. Flood waters shattered previous flood stage records all across the Midwest. Jessica and her fellow meteorologists at KIMT were recognized for their excellence in severe weather coverage during the devastating Parkersburg tornado as well as for the record Midwest flooding of 2008.

On June 17, 2010, while storm chasing with her father, she witnessed her first tornado. After almost 12 hours of chasing and trying to catch up with developing storms, Jessica finally spotted an EF-3 Tornado near Hollandale, MN. Click here to view the video of her storm chase that day. When Jessica is not working she enjoys taking long walks with her dog Miles, and playing soccer. In her free time Jessica is also taking online classes at Mercy College towards a B.S. degree in Computer Science. Jessica enjoys bringing out her inner nerd. She loves to work on her programming skills as well as designing webpages (like this one).
